Executive Director Succession Announcement

Dear Angel Flight West Family,

After more than 20 incredible years with Angel Flight West, and 11 deeply rewarding years serving as your Executive Director, I’m writing to share the news that I will be transitioning out of this role in March 2025 to pursue an exciting new opportunity at the national level in public benefit flying. This decision comes with a full heart, immense gratitude, and unwavering confidence in the bright future of Angel Flight West.

Reflecting on these past two decades, I am overwhelmed and humbled by the privilege it has been to work alongside such a dedicated and compassionate community of staff, volunteers, donors, and nonprofit partners. It has been the honor of my lifetime to lead such an amazing organization, where I’m inspired daily by the courage of our passengers, the passion and selfless dedication of our volunteers and staff, and by those who have invested so generously in our mission. Together, we’ve ensured that thousands of people in need have received free access to critical health care and other vital services. This work hasn’t just been my job — it’s been my purpose, and I’m endlessly grateful to each of you for making it possible. I feel blessed by the opportunity.

We’ve grown and learned immensely as we leaned into the massive need for transportation to health care. I’m incredibly proud of our team for increasing the flights and patient families we served by over 60 percent over the last 11 years. We more than doubled our staff and resources to ensure we can continue to sustain our growth and to scale to meet the need, and I’m confident that with the team we have in place, we’ll soar to even greater heights in the coming years.

Similar to how our board of directors allowed me the opportunity to seamlessly transition into leadership from my predecessor Alan Dias, I’m thrilled to announce that Mary Hunter will assume the role of Executive Director of Angel Flight West after a thorough process involving coaching, mentorship, and education. As many of you already well know, Mary is a gifted leader whose deep commitment to our mission and exceptional ability to inspire and engage others make her the perfect person to guide Angel Flight West into its next chapter. Mary’s service and work as our Development Director over the past eight years has well-positioned the organization for future success, and I have no doubt that her leadership will continue to elevate our impact and expand our reach.

Transitions like this are never easy, but they are necessary for growth — both personal and organizational. While I’ll miss being part of the day-to-day work at Angel Flight West, I take solace in knowing that the organization is in excellent hands and is poised to reach new heights. I’m committed to working closely with Mary, the board, and the entire Angel Flight West team during (and beyond) this transition period to ensure future success.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your trust, your partnership, and your shared belief in the power of service. I look forward to staying connected with Angel Flight West as a proud supporter, and I’m eager to witness all the extraordinary ways this community will continue to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Blue Skies and Tailwinds,
