Dana Tankenbaum, AFW Volunteer Intern

Angel Flight West welcomes our newest intern Dana Tankenbaum. Dana works in the office as a volunteer scheduling social media posts, reviewing mission photos submitted to us from our volunteer pilots, entering various data, and occasionally answering calls if the Mission Ops team are on the phone with other callers.

Dana heard about AFW through the UCLA version of the career search engine Handshake. “When I look for a place to work, I always make sure that I feel like it is a place where I am contributing to a worthwhile cause. AFW’s mission of providing free air transportation to passengers in need and cargo that will aid others, like COVID relief supplies and donated blood, seemed like an extremely worthy mission to me.”

Dana is a global studies major and film minor. After graduation, she says that she “may take a year or two off to work before I go to law school. However, with the current climate, future plans are never certain.”

She feels that “working at AFW is an incredible experience. The work itself is rewarding even at the data entry level because I can see how it impacts a larger goal. The work environment is more lighthearted and supportive than I expected it to be. Everyone in the staff is so kind, compassionate, and encouraging. I found that every person made me feel like part of the team. Having less experience in office spaces, working at AFW and the staff has had such a positive impact on my perception of what a healthy work environment can be.”
