It won’t only be planes taking to the skies this weekend. On Saturday, September 26, runners of all ages will gather at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, CO for the 9th Annual Run for the Angels 5K, raising important funds and awareness for Angel Flight West (AFW).
The family-friendly event, presented by AFW partner HDR, has continued to grow year after year. This year, 282 participants have already signed up, a 45% increase over last year’s 194 registrations.
Since 2017, the Run for the Angels 5K has brought together runners, families, aviation enthusiasts and community members in support of charitable aviation.
As a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization, Angel Flight West’s volunteer pilots and airline partners fly people to medical appointments at no cost to the passenger. These donated flights help remove transportation barriers that can prevent people from accessing the healthcare they need.
The annual fundraiser includes a 5K for kids and adults, along with opportunities for the organization’s youngest supporters to participate.
“Every year, the Run for the Angels 5K gives our community another opportunity to come together around a mission that makes a real difference for patients and their families,” says Mary Hunter, AFW Executive Director. “We’re incredibly grateful to HDR and all of our sponsors, volunteers and participants for continuing to grow this event and help raise awareness of Angel Flight West’s mission. Seeing more people come together this year is a wonderful reflection of the community’s commitment to helping people reach the medical care they need.”
The event also provides an opportunity to share Angel Flight West’s mission with the Colorado community and highlight the impact of charitable aviation. People of all abilities are encouraged to participate, and a virtual 5K option is available for those who cannot attend in person.
This year’s event is being led by HDR’s Minsoo Kim and Katya Torres, who are taking on leadership of the annual 5K.
With more than $15,000 raised, this year’s Run for the Angels 5K is on track to be another strong showing of community support for Angel Flight West and the passengers it serves. Angel Flight West is also excited to announce a new partnership with Waymo, expanding the organization’s ability to help address ground transportation barriers and connect patients and their families with the medical care they need.
