Chris Bennett joined Angel Flight West on February 6, 2014, completing his orientation just three days later and flying his very first mission on February 14. Since then, he has completed an extraordinary 705 missions, flying a Diamond Star 40 out of San Jose (SJC).
One of his deepest connections has been with Eileen, who has flown with Chris 323 times. Eileen lovingly calls herself the president of the “Chris Bennett Fan Club.”
Eileen captured Chris’s impact beautifully in her heartfelt words during his 700th-mission celebration:
You have been the link between home and medical care for hundreds of people. The passengers you fly are all patients in need of the advantages offered by a large medical facility with a multitude of medical specialists.
What sets you apart is that you have been flying as an AFW pilot long enough to have accumulated over 700 missions. And that is what today’s get-together is about: to honor you – who have volunteered your time, your plane, fuel and most importantly, your expertise, professionalism, warmth and empathy to countless people in need. What a way to give back!
You and I have become a team. I have a feeling that is true for the myriad of other lives you have touched and continue to touch.
On behalf of Angel Flight West, me and all the others: a heartfelt thank you!
Chris’ story is a reminder of the power of volunteerism and the difference one person can make.
