Bob Meyers
Meet AFW’s new Wyoming Wing Leader, J.T. Grainger and Deputy Wing Leader, Bob Meyers!
J.T. Grainger
J.T. Grainger, a lifelong aviation enthusiast, joined AFW in 2018. Growing up in Saratoga, WY, he developed a passion for flying at an early age, inspired by his family’s aviation background. Though an initial medical restriction prevented him from flying solo, he remained deeply involved in aviation, eventually earning over 500 flight hours in Cessna aircraft and continuing advanced flight training.
He’s the founder of Sheridan Pilots 307, a Part 61 flight school providing accessible flight training. Since its founding in 2020, the school has helped numerous students achieve their Private Pilot’s License, instrument ratings, and tailwheel endorsements. He also serves as President of the Sheridan Pilots Association (SPA), a nonprofit promoting aviation education and community outreach.
J.T. is involved in many aviation organizations including Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Angel Flight West, Aero Club of Washington, Cessna Pilots Association, Commemorative Air Force, Flight Schools of North America, National Business Aviation Association, North American Trainer Association, Recreational Aviation Foundation, Seaplane Pilots Association, Smithsonian Air & Space Museum and Experimental Aircraft, Vintage and Warbird Associations.
Beyond aviation, J.T. works in Aftermarket Sales at Vacutech. When he’s not flying, you can find J.T. outdoors with family and friends doing anything from boating, snowmobiling, skiing, golfing or traveling. He also enjoys volunteering for the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador celebrating and supporting local small businesses.
J.T. says, “I’m excited to be more involved in Angel Flight West because I truly believe in the organization’s mission of providing access to healthcare for rural patients using General Aviation. We are blessed to use aircraft to make a difference in people’s lives!”
Bob Meyers
Bob Meyers joined AFW as a volunteer pilot in 2022 and has flown 24 missions. He is a part-time flight instructor at Sheridan Pilots 307 and serves on the board of directors as Treasurer for Sheridan Pilots Association. Flying has always been a hobby for Bob. He obtained his Private Pilot license at age 18 in 1976!
Bob and his wife, Jane, live in Sheridan, WY. He has lived in different parts of the country but spent most of his years in southern WI, where he rarely flew above 2,500’ AGL. By contrast, Sheridan is at 4,000’, and the Bighorns are more than 13,000 in some places.
Outside of aviation, Bob is a retired Naval submarine officer. He’s a CPA and tax professional who teaches individual taxation for the University of Wisconsin. He is also a coordinator/instructor/reviewer for the IRS sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax return preparation for low and moderate income taxpayers while giving students practical experience. Bob has an undergraduate degree in mathematics and master’s degrees in both Finance and Accounting.
Bob says, “I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in Angel Flight West. I hope to assist and encourage fellow pilots who feel led to help those in need of transportation to medical facilities.”
We’re thrilled to have Bob and JT as part of our Wyoming Wing Leadership!
