Each year, HDR hosts the Run for the Angels 5K in Broomfield, Colorado on an airport runway in support of Angel Flight West. The family-friendly event has enabled AFW to arrange hundreds of missions over the years while raising awareness about our services in the Centennial State and beyond.
This year, we’re honored that six-year-old passenger Nicole (pictured right) and her family will be attending Run for the Angels to represent AFW’s passengers. Nicole has been flying with AFW and Command Pilot Kosta Constantine for three years to access leukemia treatment at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Nicole’s mom Mirna says, “We’re glad to be able to participate. I’m so thankful for Angel Flight West and everything they have done for us.”
Meet the HDR Team
HDR’s team members Marty Droze and Hannah Rockwell have been organizing the annual 5K for years. When asked about his desire to be involved, Marty says, “After serving as race director for the past three years, I’ve grown close with Angel Flight West staff and have met several angels (volunteers) and passengers. When hearing family members talk about their flight experiences, I feel a renewed energy and purpose to do better for the event. It’s impossible not to be touched by their stories.”
As for Hannah? Her personal experience deepens her connection. “My brother was life-flighted from Kansas to Colorado when he was born,” she says. “My family had good insurance at the time and thankfully he only needed one flight, but I wanted to volunteer and fundraise for AFW to help those who aren’t as fortunate.”
We’re honored to have Marty, Hannah, and HDR on our team. Last year alone, the event raised more than $16,000 toward the gift of flight, enabling AFW to arrange nearly 100 life-changing missions.
“I’m proud of how much support we’ve received from the community. Thanks to our partners at Woolpert, Pilatus, and Embry Riddle University, we’re able organize the 5K at no cost to AFW,” says Marty. “That means every dollar from race registration or donations goes directly to AFW. Our race-day volunteers come from HDR, Colorado Civil Air Patrol, and from friends and family. And of course, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport has been with us every step of the way — pun intended!”
